The Uttar Pradesh government has taken a major and ambitious step to empower women economically. The Lakhpati Didi Scheme, inspired by a central government initiative, is being implemented effectively in Uttar Pradesh under the Yogi government. The main objective is to help women associated with SHGs earn an annual income of ₹1 lakh or more.
Under this scheme, women receive training, technical guidance, financial support, and market linkage so they can start and run income-generating activities on a sustainable basis.
Women selected under the Lakhpati Didi Yojana will be involved in both agricultural and non-agricultural activities, including:
Animal husbandry and dairy farming
Poultry farming
Vegetable and seed production
Beekeeping and mushroom cultivation
Handicrafts and cottage industries
Food processing units
Sewing, embroidery, incense stick making, spice and papad production
These activities allow women to earn from home or nearby locations, helping them balance work and family responsibilities while increasing income.
The scheme is being implemented through the Uttar Pradesh State Rural Livelihoods Mission (UPSRLM). Dedicated teams visit villages to identify eligible women and connect them with SHGs.
Skill development training
Initial capital assistance
Bank loan linkage
Market access for selling products
The government is focusing strongly on market connectivity, ensuring that women’s products reach buyers. Several districts have already shown positive income results through this model.
