India’s agriculture sector is growing at the fastest rate globally, with a 3.7% growth, announced Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan during the Rabi Abhiyan 2025-26 Conference held at Pusa, New Delhi. He credited this achievement to farmers, agricultural scientists, and farmer-friendly government policies.
The conference, which began on September 15, focused on the theme “One Nation – One Agriculture – One Team.” Chouhan emphasized the need for collaboration among the Centre, states, scientists, and stakeholders to bring about transformative change in agriculture.
“We are not ordinary people; we have the privilege and responsibility of shaping the future of half of the country’s population. Our work must be marked by dedication and genuine concern for the upliftment of our farmers,” Chouhan said.
Chouhan addressed the issue of counterfeit agricultural products like seeds, fertilisers, and pesticides. He assured that strict action will be taken against those selling spurious items. Only biostimulants meeting approved quality standards will be allowed in the market.
The minister urged state governments, agricultural universities, and Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) to prepare actionable plans for ground-level results. “Our sole focus is on agriculture and the farmer. Every officer must bring value to their role,” he added.
With unpredictable weather affecting crops, Chouhan called for higher enrollment of farmers under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana to ensure timely compensation in case of crop loss. He also announced that the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan will be relaunched in October with joint participation from the Centre and states.
Chouhan emphasized that agricultural research must solve real issues faced by farmers rather than remain only academic. He directed quick relief measures for flood-affected regions.
Union Agriculture Secretary Dr. Devesh Chaturvedi highlighted that six breakout sessions will discuss strategies for the Rabi 2025-26 season. ICAR DG Dr. M. L. Jat and Rajasthan Agriculture Minister Dr. Kirodi Lal Meena also shared their inputs.
The event is being attended by senior central and state officials, ICAR scientists, farmer representatives, and experts to set production targets and review preparations for the upcoming season.

India’s agricultural growth at 3.7% shows the sector’s strength and resilience. With strong government policies, farmer participation, and scientific innovation, the country is on track to achieve higher productivity and food security. The focus on research, crop insurance, and quality inputs ensures that farmers remain at the heart of India’s agricultural transformation.
