Farmers planning to sell cotton at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) should complete their registration immediately, as the last date is December 31, 2025. The registration process is mandatory and is done through the Kapas Farmers App launched by the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI). With market prices under pressure, MSP has become the biggest support for cotton growers this season.

After tariff issues with the United States, the Indian government removed the import duty on cotton. This move caused cotton prices in the open market to fall sharply. Because of this, MSP is now the only reliable option for farmers to get a fair price for their produce.
For the current season, the MSP for long-staple cotton is ₹8,110 per quintal. Since import duty relaxation will continue till December 31, open market prices may keep fluctuating. Registering with CCI ensures farmers can sell cotton at MSP without price risk.
Interest in MSP registration is growing fast. So far:
Around 7 lakh farmers from Maharashtra have registered
Nearly 41 lakh farmers across India have completed registration
Farmer leaders believe the actual number of cotton growers, especially in regions like Vidarbha, is much higher. CCI officials say app-based registration has made the process faster, with around 50,000 farmers registering daily.
As CCI increased cotton procurement, private market rates have also improved slightly. Earlier, cotton prices had dropped to nearly ₹6,800 per quintal, but now many markets are seeing prices close to ₹7,400 per quintal.
Private traders often reduce prices by calling cotton quality inferior. However, with MSP procurement, farmers now have stronger bargaining power.

According to Roshan Kothari, APMC Director from Wani in Yavatmal district, cotton production is lower this year. This could work in favor of farmers. He said that if prices reach ₹8,000 per quintal, growers can earn good profits.
