In a major relief to farmers affected by crop damage, the Haryana government has released ₹52.14 crore as compensation for crop loss. This amount will benefit 22,617 farmers across 15 districts who suffered damage during the Rabi season 2025 due to natural calamities.
Every year, Indian farmers face huge losses due to storms, floods, excessive rainfall, and other weather-related disasters. To provide financial support in such situations, both the central and state governments offer compensation schemes. One such central scheme is the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), under which compensation is provided for crop loss. In addition, Haryana has also taken independent steps to compensate affected farmers.
Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini recently announced the release of ₹52.14 crore for farmers affected by Rabi crop loss. The compensation is meant for losses suffered between December 2024 and March 2025. The state government used its dedicated compensation portal to assess and verify crop damage data submitted by farmers.

According to the Revenue and Disaster Management Department of Haryana, the farmers from the following 15 districts are eligible for compensation:
Ambala
Bhiwani
Charkhi-Dadri
Gurugram
Hisar
Jhajjar
Jind
Kaithal
Kurukshetra
Mahendragarh
Mewat
Palwal
Rewari
Rohtak
Yamunanagar
Out of these, Rewari district received the highest compensation of ₹19.92 crore, followed by:
Mahendragarh – ₹10.74 crore
Jhajjar – ₹8.33 crore
Gurugram – ₹4.07 crore
Charkhi-Dadri – ₹3.67 crore
Bhiwani – ₹2.24 crore
The remaining districts received compensation based on the level of damage and the number of affected farmers.
Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini stated that the aim of releasing this compensation is to help farmers recover from financial losses caused by bad weather during the Rabi season. The compensation was calculated using verified data and government norms. District administration officials played a crucial role in verifying claims and ensuring the fast transfer of compensation to the farmers bank accounts.
Alongside state-level compensation, farmers also benefit from the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), a crop insurance scheme launched by the central government. This scheme offers insurance coverage against crop loss due to natural disasters, pest attacks, or diseases.
Farmers pay a minimal premium under this scheme, and in case of damage, the insurance company directly transfers the compensation to the farmer’s bank account. Most of the insurance premium is subsidized by the central and state governments, reducing the financial burden on farmers.
Protection against loss due to drought, floods, hailstorms, pests, etc.
Quick compensation for insured farmers.
Low premium due to government subsidy.
Financial security during natural disasters.
The Haryana government has confirmed that the compensation will be transferred to the eligible farmers' bank accounts soon after district-level verification is completed. Farmers can check the compensation status through their local agriculture department or district administration office.
If an eligible farmer does not receive compensation, they can raise a complaint by visiting their nearest agriculture office or Kisan Seva Kendra. These offices will help resolve issues related to compensation under the state scheme or PMFBY.
The Haryana government’s release of ₹52.14 crore is a significant step to support farmers suffering from crop loss. This, along with the central government’s PMFBY scheme, offers a safety net to ensure the financial well-being of farmers facing natural disasters. Farmers are advised to stay updated with government guidelines and apply for compensation and insurance schemes in a timely manner to receive maximum benefits.
