The Himachal Pradesh government is giving a huge subsidy to promote natural farming under the National Mission on Natural Farming Scheme. This initiative aims to reduce farmers dependency on chemical fertilizers and pesticides while cutting farming costs. The government is also purchasing crops grown through natural methods at Minimum Support Price (MSP), encouraging more farmers to switch to chemical-free farming.

Due to subsidies, MSP, and other incentives, 20,000+ farmers in Hamirpur and 16,853 farmers in Una have adopted natural farming. Officials say this has improved soil health, lowered input costs, enhanced crop quality, and benefited the environment.
Hamirpur: In the Rabi season, farmers produced 96 quintals of wheat and 9 quintals of turmeric through natural methods. In the last Kharif season, 53 quintals of maize were purchased.
Una: Farmers sold 41.66 metric tonnes of natural wheat and 11.15 metric tonnes of maize through the scheme.
Deputy Commissioners have urged farmers to adopt this eco-friendly farming method. Farmers like Shakuntala Devi and Sushma Devi from Gram Panchayat Amlahad have reduced farming costs and are earning better prices for their produce. They also enjoy chemical-free food, which has improved their family’s health.
Under the Natural Farming Scheme, the following subsidies are provided:
₹25,000 for buying a local cow
₹8,000 for concrete flooring and cow urine collection in cowsheds
₹5,000 for transportation and up to ₹2,000 discount in market fee
Up to ₹2,250 for drums and other necessary equipment
The government sends the subsidy directly to farmers bank accounts.
Himachal Pradesh offers the highest MSP in the country for natural products:
Crop | MSP (per kg) |
Wheat | ₹60 |
Barley | ₹60 |
Raw Turmeric | ₹90 |
Maize | ₹40 |
Farmers also get transport subsidies. The state markets these products under the brand ‘Him Bhog’, ensuring consumers get high-quality, chemical-free food.
To be eligible for the scheme, farmers must:
Use natural fertilizers such as cow dung manure, Jeevamrit, compost manure, earthworm manure, and Ghan Jeevamrit.
Adopt crop rotation to maintain soil fertility.
Use organic pesticides made from neem oil, cow urine, baking soda, garlic extract, onion extract, and other natural products.
This scheme not only improves farmers income but also supports a healthier environment and ensures better-quality food for consumers.
