The Bihar government has approved two major schemes aimed at increasing farmers income through honey production and beekeeping. These initiatives are part of a broader plan to promote allied agricultural activities under the Integrated Horticulture Development Mission (MIDH) for the year 2025-26.
To promote honey production as a commercial activity, the state government has sanctioned ₹10.30 crore for implementing two new schemes across all districts. The goal is to provide an alternative source of income for farmers and encourage sustainable livelihoods through beekeeping.
Under the new scheme, farmers will receive up to 50% subsidy on essential beekeeping items, including:
Bee Boxes
Bee Hives
Honey Extractor Machines
Food Grade Containers
The scheme aims to not only support honey production but also improve crop pollination, which helps boost overall agricultural productivity.
Equipment | Unit Cost | Subsidy (%) | Subsidy Amount |
Bee Box | ₹4,000 | 50% | ₹2,000 |
Bee Hive | ₹2,000 | 50% | ₹1,000 |

Food Grade Container | — | 50% | — |

Agriculture Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha stated that these schemes will be rolled out in every district of Bihar, ensuring maximum participation and benefit for farmers across the state. The move underlines the government's commitment to diversifying income opportunities for the agricultural community.
He further highlighted that the direct subsidy support on equipment will help farmers set up their own beekeeping units with less financial burden and better access to necessary tools.
