The Bihar government has announced major relief for farmers in the Bihar Budget 2026-27, presented in the state assembly. Under this new decision, farmers in Bihar will now receive ₹9,000 per year as financial assistance instead of ₹6,000.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced that the state government will provide an additional ₹3,000 per year to farmers under the Chief Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana. This amount will be given along with the ₹6,000 already provided under the central government’s PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme.
With this change, eligible farmers in Bihar will now receive a total annual benefit of ₹9,000.
The government said this decision will mainly benefit small and marginal farmers, who are facing increasing costs of seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, diesel, and farm labor. The additional amount is expected to help farmers manage farming expenses more easily and buy inputs on time.
During the budget speech, Finance Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav said the state is actively working on Agriculture Roadmap-4. He emphasized that agriculture is the backbone of Bihar’s economy and that increasing farmers’ income is essential for overall development. The extra financial support has been introduced to strengthen farmers economically.
Earlier, farmers received ₹6,000 per year under PM Kisan, paid in three installments. The ₹3,000 state support will now be added to this benefit, raising the total assistance to ₹9,000 annually. The state government believes this combined support will improve farmers’ financial stability.
The total size of the Bihar Budget 2026-27 is ₹3.47 lakh crore, making it the largest budget in the state’s history. The government said the budget focuses strongly on development, agriculture, and the rural economy. The announcement also fulfills an earlier promise made in the NDA election manifesto. There are indications that the scheme may later be named after social reformer Karpuri Thakur.
